Local Facilities

Poppy Cottage is a few minutes’ walk from the village centre, with its supermarket, post office, chemist, tearooms, pubs, restaurants and take-aways. There is also a garage in Sway Road and two main banks – HSBC and Lloyds. Hotels which cater for wedding venues and other functions are nearby.  If you are attending a function at The Balmer Lawn Hotel, Careys Manor or The Cloud Hotel, they are only a few minutes walk away. Rhinefield House Hotel is a short drive into the forest.

Bicycle Hire is available from three shops in Brockenhurst.  Cycle maps are available at Cycle Experience, near the railway station on the main Lyndhurst to Lymington road or in the paper shops in Brookley Road (the village centre) or Londis on the Lymington Road (A337).  Off-road cycle routes make the area a safe place to ride into the forest, on special tracks away from the traffic, winter and summer. Walking maps are also available in the village, showing routes in the forest, where you may spot one of the four species of wild deer inhabiting the UK.  You will certainly see ponies. Riding stables are within a short distance, which cater for all abilities, where you will be accompanied by instructors.

Public Transport

Buses take you to the local area and further afield.  Perhaps you would like a trip to the City of Southampton with its large shopping mall, including John Lewis, multi-screen cinema and indoor bowling.  There is also a “hop on hop off” bus service (Summer only), which has a facility to carry bicycles on a trailer so you can venture even further afield to other villages in the forest. The Main Line railway station in Brockenhurst takes you to Waterloo in 90 minutes, South West Trains or to Lymington, the nearest town just four miles away where you can board a ferry to the Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight

Nearby Attractions

There are too many to name them all but include Beaulieu Motor Museum, a few miles away, where many events are held throughout the year apart from the Museum itself, the Abbey and Palace.

Bucklers Hard, which is an 18th century village where warships for Nelson’s navy were built.  There is a museum, cottage displays, the Master Builder’s House Hotel offering buffet, restaurant and public bar.  From here you can also enjoy a cruise on the Beaulieu river and a walk along the river to the village of Beaulieu.

Exbury Gardens are also worth a visit, especially during May when the rhododendrons are in full bloom.  Board the mini-gauge railway for a trip around part of the gardens.

Unspoilt beaches are not far away, as well as the more popular ones at Boscombe and Bournemouth.

So you see there will be plenty for you to enjoy during your stay in the New Forest.  Why not pay us a visit and find out more for yourself.  We guarantee you will want to return!
